Bailey Ranger 550/6 S5

6 Berth · Single Axle · Fixed Dining Area · 2001 · AL-KO Stabiliser

This 6 berth, single axle, Bailey Ranger 550/6 has an AL-KO galvanised chassis, an AL-KO stabiliser and a two part stable entrance door ( see photographs ).

The Front Lounge
The seats of this caravan are of two different lengths; one being 172cm and the other being 185cm. For full access to the space beneath the seats you will need to remove the seat cushions and lift the slatted frame ( see photograph ). A good amount of daylight comes into the lounge - it has a large, un-interrupted panoramic window at the very front, side windows and a large rooflight above.

As well as the storage under the seats there are a number of top lockers all the way round plus a cupboard at the bottom of the two drawer cabinet and the drawers themselves.

Entertainment wise the TV station is sensibly positioned so that the television can be viewed easily form the lounge. The TV station has a TV connection point, 12 volt and mains power sockets. The aerial socket is connected to a signal booster and that in turn is connected to a Vision Plus Status 315 omni directional aerial.

At night this area can be made into a bedroom area with a double bed ( 6' 6" x 4' 1" ) or two single beds ( 1 @ 6' 1" x 2' 3" and 1 @ 5' 8" x 2' 3" ). To make this task easier and more practical, there is an easy bed make-up system to aid this process. This is an array of wooden slats that pulls out from under the two drawer cabinet to provide support for the beds ( see photograph ). It is as easy to put away as it it to pull-out.

Night-time lighting comes from two lights with frosted shades that are directional ( see photograph ), two directional spotlights that have their own switches ( see photograph ) and 4 fixed spotlights on the ceiling that are placed around the rooflight.

The Kitchen
The kitchen has a Thetford Spinflo 4 gas burner hob and a Thetford Spinflo oven and grill with flame failure device. Beneath the oven is a storage cupboard suitable for baking trays and similar items. The stainless steel sink comes with a ceramic ball mixer tap.

Kitchen storage is important. Storage above the worktop includes two overhead lockers and some handy corner shelves. Beneath the worktop and to the far left is a good sized cupboard with a cutlery tray to the top, wired basket storage trays beneath and a good storage space beneath them ( see photograph ). There is another large to the right of this that has a number of shelves and as mentioned before there is storage beneath the oven.

Daylight to the kitchen comes via the window directly behind the hob and to some extent the window on the opposite side of the caravan that supplies light to the dining area. There is a small roof-vent above to aid with the reduction of condensation from cooking. Night-time lighting comes from the strip light that shines over the sink area and the main ceiling light to the right.

The Fixed Dining Area
Opposite the kitchen, on the other side of the caravan is the dining area which makes it convenient for serving meals. However, this can also be a sleeping area providing two singles ( 1 @ 5' 7" x 2' 2" and 1 @ 5' 5" x 2' 0" ). There is a curtain rail fixed to the caravan ceiling and curtains are used to seperate the area off. There are two directional spots and a main ceiling light for night-time lighting to the dining area.

The WC / Washroom
In this area we find the swivel unit Thetford cassette toilet with an integrated header tank. There is no seperate shoer cubicle - instead there is a pull-round shower curtain. To the left is a good sized wall mounted mirror and there is storage beneath the washbasin for things like toiletries etc. The washroom has a ceiling vent to help reduce moisture and condensation.

The Rear Bunks
Situated right at the back of the caravan are the fixed bunk beds ( 1 @ 5' 7" x 2' 0" and 1 @ 6' 8" x 1' 11" ). Each bunk has it's own strip light for night-time lighting and there is a curtain on a rail to sperate them off from the rest of the caravan. To the right of the bunks is a tall cupboard for storage.

Hi Dick
I had a 36 months gold package with them and made a claim for a repair in France.
They paid 80% of the bill which was over 1100 euro.
In my book that was good value

Hi Glandwr.
I have had very good experiences with this company 3 years ago. Firstly, the power steering rack failed. One phone call to MB&G. I was asked where I would like to have it done, which was our local garage in Gretna. They then contacted the gararage. All I had to do was to sit and wait a few days until it was done.Brilliant!

Next was the kitchen tap which went in France--quick phone call to MB&G--kept receipt and was re-imbursed within 4 days of being back home. The integral bike rack hinges failed. It was repaired by Peter Hambilton, who did a brilliant job. Again, just a quick phone call to MB&G,and everything was sorted. I would only hope they are still as good now as they were then. I couldn't fault them. The warranty was in with the price of the van,so I can't say how much it cost but as the van was 10 yrs old I wanted some form of assurance for that 1st year. Incidentally,it's needed nothing since, other than basic service items. You can only speak as you find, but for me they were vey good.

What Else Should I Know?
