The Front Lounge

  • General View of the Sterling Eccles Jewel 90 Used Caravan Front LoungeSeating - the two seats differ in length. Actual sizes are 167cm and 160cm. Available lengths up to the draw cabinet and after cushions are in place are 117cm and 110cm respectively ( dimensions are approximate ). This gives plenty of seating for four people plus other guests. Seating is comfortable and in good condition.
  • Night-Time Lighting - the lounge has 4 directional spotlights each with their own switch. This means that you can select which ones to have on or off. These are set into the 'four corners' of the lounge. In addition to these there are 2 lights set into the corners that have front diffusers to make the light less harsh. There is also a light on the ceiling.
  • Daylight - daylight to the front lounge is supplied by the surrounding windows and the rooflight above.
  • Storage - The lounge has 6 standard width, overhead lockers. Further storage is provided by the 2 drawers at the front between the seats and beneath these is another storage cupboard. There is of course storage beneath the seats as well. This can be accessed in two different ways; by using the handy front doors, but these only give partial access or by removing the seat cushions and lifting the slatted wood frame ( this gives full access ).
  • Using As A Sleeping Area - The front lounge has an Easy Bed Make-Up System. This is an array of wooden slats that pulls out and runs on a glide-track. It makes the process of changing the lounge into a sleeping area easier and less tiresome. To cut out light, all rooflights and windows have integral pleated blinds. You can either make the area into a double bed; 7' 0" x 5' 3" or two single beds; 1 @ 5' 6" x 2' 4" and 1 @ 5' 3" x 2' 4"
  • Entertainment - There is a Radio in the TV area that is connected to the speakers in the lounge. The radio is also connected to the Vision Plus signal booster. There is a TV connection point with both 12 volt and mains power sockets - this is in the base of the lounge seat.
  • Other - An occasional table pulls out from the top of the 2 drawer cabinet - this is very handy for cups of tea and coffee as well as magazines and newspapers. It is also very easy to put away.

The Kitchen

  • Sterling Eccles Jewel 90 Kitchen OverviewStorage - The kitchen has a small shelf unit beside 2 overhead storage cupboards. Below the worktop is a tall, narrow cupboard with a draw at the top and storage baskets beneath. Under the oven is a cupboard suitable for baking trays and similar items. If you need more kitchen storage then bear in mind, that on the opposite side of the caravan there are further cupboards and draws - indeed the cutlery draw is on this side.
  • Daylight - there is a wide window directly behind the sink, a window in the TV area opposite and a rooflight above all bringing daylight into the kitchen area. The rooflight also provides a way of controlling moisture and condensation from cooking.
  • Night-Time Lighting - There is a small light unit under the top cupboards to shine down onto the sink and worktop.
  • Cooking - The kitchen is fitted with a Thetford oven and grill - these are in a good condition. There is a dual fuel hob with 3 gas burners and 1 electric hotplate. It has electronic ignition and flame failure protection.
  • Refrigerator - The kitchen comes with a Thetford 107 litre refrigerator with electronic ignition.
  • Sink - recessed circular, stainless steel sink with single mixer tap.

The TV Station

Central to the caravan, the TV station is directly opposite the Kitchen and immediately on your right as you enter the caravan. It's position means that the television can be easily viewed from the front lounge ( there is an additional TV connection point in the lounge ). The station has the usual TV connection point, 12 volt and mains socket power points. These are connected to a signal booster and the aerial. There are also cupboards and drawers for storage of DVD's, leads etc or if you preferred these could be utilised for extra kitchen storage. In one of the cupboards you will find the Radio / CD player.

Eccles Jewel 90 Fixed Double BedThe Rear Bedroom

Many people like the extra comfort and handiness a bedroom with a fixed double bed gives - doing away with the need to make a bed up every night and pack it all away in the morning. The bedroom has a 'serving hatch' to the TV station area so that television can be viewed from the bed. The bedroom is separated from the front of the caravan by a sliding, folding room separator.

  • Storage - There are 5 overhead lockers in the bedroom. There is also the large storage space beneath the bed. ( Please note: the large wardrobe style cupboard with hanging rail and shelves beneath is just outside the bedroom. )
  • Daylight - there are 2 windows in the bedroom - a wide window by the bed and a smaller one by the washbasin. Additionally, there is a rooflight. All have integral blinds for night-time.
  • Night-Time Lighting - there are 2 directional spotlights over the bed at the headboard end - handy if you like to read in bed. There is also a small fixed spotlight over the washbasin.
  • Other - in the corner is a washbasin with single mixer tap. Above it are wall mounted mirrors and a single fixed spotlight.

The Toilet / Shower Room

Situated at the rear of the caravan the shower room has a bi-fold door to separate the cassette toilet from the shower cubicle. There is a fixed spotlight in this room and also a roof vent for moisture control.

Warranty Included In The Price

Unless otherwise stated, the Penrose Touring price includes 12 months warranty provided by MB&G Insurance. At the time of purchase you are provided with a booklet produced by MB&G Insurance. The booklet explains what the warranty does and does not cover, what additional benefits you may be entitled to, the insurance conditions and how to make a claim under the warranty. The booklet also includes a claim form for your convenience.

MB&G - Who Are They?

MB&G Insurance are one of the few remaining privately owned warranty providers and have been in business since 1978. They are members of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders and the National Caravan Council and have staff who specifically deal with caravan warranty. To quote MB&G themselves

Dealing with a Caravan warranty claim can be a very complex situation, which is why you’ll be glad of our knowledge and expertise. We understand the difficulties and can point out the potential pitfalls, and we also work with the manufacturers too. We can even cover that old devil, water ingress – a common problem that doesn’t always have a common solution – for up to seven years. Put simply, you can rely on us whatever the weather.

How Does It Work?

The warranty contract will be between yourselves and MB&G Insurance. If you need to make a warranty claim then you contact MB&G Insurance direct. We have collected a couple of quotes from people who have made warranty claims with MB&G Insurance which we feel will be helpful.

Hi Dick

I had a 36 months gold package with them and made a claim for a repair in France.
They paid 80% of the bill which was over 1100 euro.
In my book that was good value

Hi Glandwr.
I have had very good experiences with this company 3 years ago. Firstly, the power steering rack failed. One phone call to MB&G. I was asked where I would like to have it done, which was our local garage in Gretna. They then contacted the gararage. All I had to do was to sit and wait a few days until it was done.Brilliant!

Next was the kitchen tap which went in France--quick phone call to MB&G--kept receipt and was re-imbursed within 4 days of being back home. The integral bike rack hinges failed. It was repaired by Peter Hambilton, who did a brilliant job. Again, just a quick phone call to MB&G,and everything was sorted. I would only hope they are still as good now as they were then. I couldn't fault them. The warranty was in with the price of the van,so I can't say how much it cost but as the van was 10 yrs old I wanted some form of assurance for that 1st year. Incidentally,it's needed nothing since, other than basic service items. You can only speak as you find, but for me they were very good.

What Else Should I Know?

The type/level of warranty applicable is dependent on the age of the caravan. The information provided here is not exhaustive; it is not possible to state what is included and what is specifically excluded by the warranty cover you will receive. If you require this information then you need to check your policy or request the information before purchasing the caravan.
