Sterling Europa 495 Used Caravan

The Sterling Europa 390 is a medium sized 4 berth caravan. The caravan has an AL-KO galvanised steel chassis. The combination of shock absorbers  and the AL-KO 3004 stabiliser help provide a better towing experience.

The Front Lounge

  • Sterling Europa 495 Front LoungeSeating - the seating actually projects beyond the 2 drawer cabinet ( see photographs ) but from the end of the seat up-to the cabinet is 1.1 metres on both sides. Seating is comfortable and in a good condition.
  • Night-Time Lighting - The front lounge has 4 directional spotlights that are positioned into the four corners. Each light has it's own switch and therefore you can choose which ones you want to have on. In addition to these there are 2 fixed lights with front diffusers. There is also a main ceiling light which is positioned near the TV station.
  • Daylight - as you will see from the photographs, a good amount of daylight comes into the lounge area via the surrounding windows and the rooflight above.
  • Storage - The lounge has 4 overhead lockers, a small cupboard at the bottom of the 2 drawer cabinet plus the the 2 drawers themselves. The storage space beneath the seats can be accessed either by using the front facing doors or by removing the seat cushions and lifting the slatted wood frame ( this gives full access ).
  • Using As A Sleeping Area - The front lounge has an Easy Bed Make-Up System. This is an array of wooden slats that pulls out and runs on a glide-track. It makes the process of changing the lounge into a sleeping area easier and less tiresome. To cut out light, all rooflights and windows have integral pleated blinds. You can make the area into a double bed; 7' 0" x 5' 3" or two single beds - 1 @ 5' 6" x 2' 4" and the other @ 5' 3" x 2' 4"
  • Entertainment - There is a JVC Radio / CD player for entertainment and enjoyment - this is hidden in one of the overhead lockers. It has a socket for auxillary input. In addition to the one in the TV station area, the lounge also has a TV connection point with power sockets so that if you prefer you can put a TV on top of the 2 drawer cabinet and watch it there.
  • Other - There is an occasional table top that comes out of the 2 drawer cabinet that is handy for magazines, cups of tea and coffee etc.

Kitchen OverviewThe Kitchen

Situated centrally to the caravan, this is a well equipped kitchen at an appropriate size for the berth capacity of the caravan. It encompasses both sides of the caravan with the microwave being directly opposite the oven, grill and hob.

  • Storage - The kitchen has 2 good sized overhead cupboards and a small shelf section at the same level.  Beneath the worktop ( between the fridge and oven ) is a tall but narrow cupboard and there is a further one beneath the oven which is very suited to the storing of baking trays and similar items. If you require further storage it is readily available on the opposite side. There are several cupboards as well as a drawer that is very suited to storing the cutlery.
  • Daylight - the window behind the hob and sink as well as the rooflight in the ceiling give daylight into the kitchen.
  • Night-Time Lighting - A strip light with it's own switch is positioned over the worktop area to illuminate the sink and hob areas. There is also a main ceiling light to add general light to the area.
  • Cooker - Thetford thermostatic oven and separate grill.
  • Hob - A dual fuel 4 burner ( 3 gas, 1 electric hotplate ) Thetford hob unit with glass lid that incorporates a safety cut-out feature.
  • Refrigerator - The kitchen is fitted with a Thetford 107 litre fridge with freezer top box and digital controls.
  • Microwave - A Sanyo microwave is provided.
  • Other - There is an occasional table top that comes out of the 2 drawer cabinet that is handy for magazines, cups of tea and coffee etc.

Bedroom OverviewThe Bedroom

The fixed double bed adds convenience - no need to make a bed up at night or take it all away in the morning. If you have a TV postioned in the main TV station then it can be viewed from the bedroom through the 'serving hatch'. There is a small 'vanity' area in the corner with wall mounted mirrors.

  • Storage - The bedroom has a number of quite wide overhead lockers and a shelf unit right in the corner. There is also the storage beneath the bed itself. This can be very useful for items like awnings that you only need to access when you first pitch and then when you leave site.
  • Daylight - there are 2 windows - one each side of the caravan and also a small rooflight to provide natural daylight into the caravan's bedroom.
  • Night-Time Lighting - At the headboard end of the bed are 2 directional spotlights that are ideal for reading by. There is also a main ceiling light to add general light to the area.

NOTE: The large wardrobe style cupboard with hanging rail for clothes that need to stay that bit neater and shelves at the bottom for jumpers etc can be found just outside the bedroom area.

The Shower / Toilet Room

As you will see from the layout image, the Shower / Toilet Room is at the rear and runs alongside the bedroom. This does not include the washbasin which is part of the vanity area in the bedroom. There is a roof vent in the room to reduce the build up of condensation - it also brings in a small amount of daylight. There is a fixed spotlight in the room for night-time lighting.

Warranty Included In The Price

Unless otherwise stated, the Penrose Touring price includes 12 months warranty provided by MB&G Insurance. At the time of purchase you are provided with a booklet produced by MB&G Insurance. The booklet explains what the warranty does and does not cover, what additional benefits you may be entitled to, the insurance conditions and how to make a claim under the warranty. The booklet also includes a claim form for your convenience.

MB&G - Who Are They?

MB&G Insurance are one of the few remaining privately owned warranty providers and have been in business since 1978. They are members of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders and the National Caravan Council and have staff who specifically deal with caravan warranty. To quote MB&G themselves

Dealing with a Caravan warranty claim can be a very complex situation, which is why you’ll be glad of our knowledge and expertise. We understand the difficulties and can point out the potential pitfalls, and we also work with the manufacturers too. We can even cover that old devil, water ingress – a common problem that doesn’t always have a common solution – for up to seven years. Put simply, you can rely on us whatever the weather.

How Does It Work?

The warranty contract will be between yourselves and MB&G Insurance. If you need to make a warranty claim then you contact MB&G Insurance direct. We have collected a couple of quotes from people who have made warranty claims with MB&G Insurance which we feel will be helpful.

Hi Dick

I had a 36 months gold package with them and made a claim for a repair in France.
They paid 80% of the bill which was over 1100 euro.
In my book that was good value

Hi Glandwr.
I have had very good experiences with this company 3 years ago. Firstly, the power steering rack failed. One phone call to MB&G. I was asked where I would like to have it done, which was our local garage in Gretna. They then contacted the gararage. All I had to do was to sit and wait a few days until it was done.Brilliant!

Next was the kitchen tap which went in France--quick phone call to MB&G--kept receipt and was re-imbursed within 4 days of being back home. The integral bike rack hinges failed. It was repaired by Peter Hambilton, who did a brilliant job. Again, just a quick phone call to MB&G,and everything was sorted. I would only hope they are still as good now as they were then. I couldn't fault them. The warranty was in with the price of the van,so I can't say how much it cost but as the van was 10 yrs old I wanted some form of assurance for that 1st year. Incidentally,it's needed nothing since, other than basic service items. You can only speak as you find, but for me they were very good.

What Else Should I Know?

The type/level of warranty applicable is dependent on the age of the caravan. The information provided here is not exhaustive; it is not possible to state what is included and what is specifically excluded by the warranty cover you will receive. If you require this information then you need to check your policy or request the information before purchasing the caravan.
