Swift Challenger 580 Used Caravan

This 4 berth caravan from Swift is in a good condition both inside and outside. As you will see from the layout this caravan has an island bed and therefore provides easier access to the bed from both sides. The caravan comes with a motor-mover - a handy accessory for getting the caravan into that final position either on-site or at home ( Please note: the motor mover is not covered by the warranty ). We describe the interior in detail below.

The Front Lounge

  • The seating in the front lounge of the Swift Challenger 580 Used CaravanSeating - each seat measures 1.48 metres before cushions are put in place.  This will comfortably seat four persons. The seats are very comfortable to sit on and should provide a pleasant TV watching experience.
  • Night-Time Lighting - the front lounge has 4 directional spotlights ( effectively in the four corners of the lounge ) each with their own switch. This means that you can select which ones to have on or off. In addition to these there is a wide strip light in the ceiling that has a diffuser cover plate to avoid harsh, direct light.
  • Daylight - there are 3 sources of daylight into the front lounge - the surrounding windows, the large rooflight above and the front skylight above the front windows. This combination of light sources not only means plenty of daylight comes into the area but the daylight has an even and pleasant spread.
  • Storage - The lounge has 2 standard sized overhead lockers plus 2 smaller lockers. In addition to these there are two drawers in the cabinet which also has a cupboard at the bottom. The large storage space beneath the seats can be accessed in two different ways; by using the handy front facing doors or by removing the seat cushions and lifting the slatted wood frame ( this gives full access ).
  • Using As A Sleeping Area - The front lounge has an Easy Bed Make-Up System. This is an array of wooden slats that pulls out and runs on a glide-track. It makes the process of changing the lounge into a sleeping area easier and less tiresome. To cut out light, all rooflights and windows have integral pleated blinds. You can either make the area into a double bed; 6' 10" x 5' 1" or two single beds; 5' 1" x 2' 4"
  • Entertainment - There is a JVC KD223 Radio / CD player attached to two stereo speakers for entertainment and your enjoyment. It is located inside one of the overhead lockers to keep it out of sight and has an auxillary connection port.

The Kitchen

  • Vermont Kitchen OverviewStorage - The kitchen has 2 overhead storage cupboards, a small drawer and a cupboard with vegetable baskets. Beneath the cooker is a cupboard ideal for storing baking trays or similar
  • Daylight - the window behind the hob and the vent above give balanced daylight into the kitchen area.
  • Night-Time Lighting - there is a striplight over the hob unit and sink. Above and infront of the microwave are 2 downlighters.
  • Cooking - The kitchen is fitted with a combined grill and domestic style oven. The recessed dual fuel hob unit has 3 gas burners and 1 electric hotplate. There is also a Sanyo microwave.
  • Refrigerator - The kitchen comes with a Thetford refrigerator with a full width freezer compartment to the top.
  • Sink - recessed coloured sink that works well colourwise with the worktop. A single mixer tap is provided.
  • Other - there is a vent/rooflight in the ceiling to reduce condensation from cooking.

The Bedroom

  • Storage - To the right side is a larger cupboard with hanging rail and some small shelves inside. This is also where the dining table is stored. Below the cupboard are 2 drawers and a smaller cupboard space.
To the left side the cupboards are narrower but also include a hanging rail and top and bottom storage.
Further storage is provided by the 2 overhead lockers and the angled cupboard in the corner.Washbasin and Shower Cubicle
  • Daylight - the window opposite the bed and the rooflight above give balanced daylight to the bedroom.
  • Night-Time Lighting - there are 2 directional spotlights over the bed ( headboard end ) and a fixed spotlight over the small TV/Vanity area.
  • Sleeping - the island bed measurements are 6' 1" x 4' 4" ( 185 x 133cm ). Windows and rooflights have integral blinds to cut out light at night.
  • Other - the bedroom has it's own small TV station with mains, 12 volt and TV connection point.

The TV Station

In the perfect position for viewing from the front lounge the station has a single drawer and cupboard for storing DVD's, CD's cables etc. The station has the usual TV connection point, 12 volt and mains socket power points. but note that the bedroom also has it's own TV connection points as well.

The WC / Shower Room

A reasonable sized WC / Shower room with room to move about and towel down after a shower is situated at the rear of the caravan. Immediately on your left is the Thetford C260 cassette toilet with a good amount of space around it. The washbasin is next with a cupboard beneath and shelving around it. There is also a wall mounted mirror.

The shower cubicle is a fair size measuring 83cm x 59cm approximately. The cubicle has an integral light and also integral shelves - handy for shower gel bottles and similar items. Warranty Included In The Price

Unless otherwise stated, the Penrose Touring price includes 12 months warranty provided by MB&G Insurance. At the time of purchase you are provided with a booklet produced by MB&G Insurance. The booklet explains what the warranty does and does not cover, what additional benefits you may be entitled to, the insurance conditions and how to make a claim under the warranty. The booklet also includes a claim form for your convenience.

MB&G - Who Are They?

MB&G Insurance are one of the few remaining privately owned warranty providers and have been in business since 1978. They are members of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders and the National Caravan Council and have staff who specifically deal with caravan warranty. To quote MB&G themselves

Dealing with a Caravan warranty claim can be a very complex situation, which is why you’ll be glad of our knowledge and expertise. We understand the difficulties and can point out the potential pitfalls, and we also work with the manufacturers too. We can even cover that old devil, water ingress – a common problem that doesn’t always have a common solution – for up to seven years. Put simply, you can rely on us whatever the weather.

How Does It Work?

The warranty contract will be between yourselves and MB&G Insurance. If you need to make a warranty claim then you contact MB&G Insurance direct. We have collected a couple of quotes from people who have made warranty claims with MB&G Insurance which we feel will be helpful.

Hi Dick

I had a 36 months gold package with them and made a claim for a repair in France.
They paid 80% of the bill which was over 1100 euro.
In my book that was good value

Hi Glandwr.
I have had very good experiences with this company 3 years ago. Firstly, the power steering rack failed. One phone call to MB&G. I was asked where I would like to have it done, which was our local garage in Gretna. They then contacted the gararage. All I had to do was to sit and wait a few days until it was done.Brilliant!

Next was the kitchen tap which went in France--quick phone call to MB&G--kept receipt and was re-imbursed within 4 days of being back home. The integral bike rack hinges failed. It was repaired by Peter Hambilton, who did a brilliant job. Again, just a quick phone call to MB&G,and everything was sorted. I would only hope they are still as good now as they were then. I couldn't fault them. The warranty was in with the price of the van,so I can't say how much it cost but as the van was 10 yrs old I wanted some form of assurance for that 1st year. Incidentally,it's needed nothing since, other than basic service items. You can only speak as you find, but for me they were very good.

What Else Should I Know?

The type/level of warranty applicable is dependent on the age of the caravan. The information provided here is not exhaustive; it is not possible to state what is included and what is specifically excluded by the warranty cover you will receive. If you require this information then you need to check your policy or request the information before purchasing the caravan.
